Driving the Beaches of Isla Cozumel

The Beaches of Cozumel
Most are beautiful and many have dangerous water currents and waves. We took a drive around the island and experienced as many sections of the islands coast as possible time permitting because many of the beaches CLOSE, yes CLOSE at 5 or 6 pm. I am taking gates across the access road to the beach! Also many charge for entrance to the beach or beach club, it is normal on Cozumel. So if planning a trip keep this in mind. I listed the beahces in the order that you would come to them if you traveled east on Carretera Transversal (Cross Island Road) until you reach the end at Punta Morena Beach and then headed south on the Coastal Road around until downtown (Punta Langosta)and then the Coral Princesses beach (Playa Azul).

Make sure you have a drink at the Punta Morena Beach Club! This spot at the club and the little inlet next to it was my favorite place on the whole island. It was deserted except for the wait staff and drinks were cheap and cold. Sitting ocean front at one of their tables, open air toward ocean, it was wonderful. They had a small pool on the ocean and a place to wash your feet to come into the restaurant or get into the pool. Their views were spectacular – the inlet my favorite of all! Their bathrooms were not bad either.

This georgous place was very hard to get a photo of due to cruise people scurring up on their 2-4 hours to explore – so it was jammed with people.

This is free if you are not using their facilities otherwise it was quite expensive. It had many huge floating toys for the kids and had all inclusive alcohol plans. They close at 5 or 6 so call to see.

Here is some video of the drive along the southeast coast between Playa San Francisco and Punta Langosta.

This is where all the cruise ships dock so here is where you will fine all the well known chains of restaurants, bars and designers
